Dr. Neel
Dr. Arvind Neelakantan (Neel) is a fellowship trained and board certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical management of complex glaucoma and cataract surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Bombay in India graduating at the top of his class. He has since then completed three residencies in ophthalmology at the University of Bombay, India, at the University of Glasgow, UK and at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Dr. Neel is extensively trained in glaucoma. He followed each of his residencies with a clinical fellowship in glaucoma at prestigious and world-renowned eye institutes: Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India, Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, England and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. In addition he spent two years as a glaucoma research fellow at the University of Florida, Gainesville. He was awarded a National Eye Institute (NEI) grant for his work on wound healing and glaucoma surgery. He continues to actively pursue his research interests in glaucoma, which include developing newer and safer minimally invasive (small incision) surgical techniques to treat glaucoma.

Dr. Neel’s extensive training in three different continents and health economies has given him a unique perspective of glaucoma management. He has presented numerous papers and conducted training courses for other physicians at major academic meetings. He has contributed chapters to ophthalmology textbooks and is an invited reviewer for many ophthalmology journals. He is deeply interested in training the next generation of eye surgeons and also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Outside of work, Dr. Neel loves running and biking around White Rock Lake in Dallas and belongs to the Dallas Running Club. He is a huge fan of the Florida Gators and passionately follows all Gator sports.
